NBT crowned Onshore Team of the Year by major wind industry experts
Norwegian wind power developer and investor NBT AS has been chosen by industry experts to become the best performing team of 2019 in terms of onshore wind project development.
At the inaugural European Wind Investment Awards awarding ceremony held in London on 31 October, NBT stood out from peers including Cirio Law Firm, OX2, RES and SSE Renewables and was titled Onshore Team of the Year due to the impressive results it has achieved throughout the year.
Celebrating the best practice in the European wind industry, the awards, initiated by A Word About Wind, a membership organization established in 2012 with the bid to empower people working in the wind industry, include 13 categories that range from project development, project finance to innovation, legal service and start-up. Each category has one winner.
More than 60 companies were shortlisted by a panel of 17 industry leaders and experts, who then decided the 13 winners at a judging meeting.
2019 has been an important year for NBT. Together with partner Total Eren, it managed to secure a EUR 262 million project finance for its Syvash Wind Farm from a syndicate of European financial institutions led by European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Located in southern Ukraine with a capacity of 245.7 MW, the wind farm is under construction and expected to be fully operational in the second half of 2020.
In February NBT acquired the Zophia Wind Farm, also in Ukraine, with a total capacity of 792.5 MW and an estimated overall investment of more than EUR 1 billion. The wind farm will be built in three phases, 42.5 MW, 300 MW and 450 MW each. NBT expects to complete all three phases by end of 2022.
CEO Joar Viken is thrilled to have received the award, “We are very proud and honored, of course, to be named the Onshore Team of the Year, especially when we were being compared with the best players of the industry. Yet this is only a start for us. We will maintain our focus on the emerging markets, get existing projects done, look for more opportunities and make contributions to the global fight against climate change. We welcome all interested parties to join our efforts in powering the green future.”
